Bonding & Biting Progress Tracker

Most "aggressive" rats are simply frightened. This tracker walks you through four evidence-based taming stages from arrival day, logs bite/lunge incidents and voluntary approaches, and tells you when to advance — or when to step a stage back.

Weekly Bite & Approach Log

Log this week's totals. A lunge that doesn't connect counts as a bite attempt. Voluntary approaches = the rat comes to you (cage bars, hand, lap) without being lured.

Score = current stage baseline + approaches × 2 − bites × 8. Trust compounds slowly; one hard bite can wipe out a week — that is normal, not failure.

Four-Stage Taming Plan

Tick tasks as completed — your checkmarks persist. Only advance stages when the rat is calm at the current one for several days in a row.

Treat Quota While Taming

Use tiny high-value treats — a fleck of cooked chicken, a yogurt-drop crumb, a smear of baby food on a spoon — and keep all treats within 5% of daily calories. A rat eats only roughly 15–25 g of food a day, so a pea-sized morsel is already a meaningful share of the ration. Too many treats unbalance the diet and turn a rat treat-shy in reverse when you stop.
